The information minister of TFG Farhan Ali Muhumed has today declined knowledge of any foreign troops appeal to UN Security Council by foreign minister; he said “it’s on his behalf, not the government”. He was reacting to widespread condemnation to the call made by the foreign minister Mohamed Abdulahi Omar to the UN SC that they should send foreign troops to Somalia.
Different cycles of the Somali society has expressed outrage to the call, they say it’s a wrong step that will help no one.
Critics say it’s strange to hear such contradiction given the fact that the foreign minister accompanied the president to 4 African countries for official visit recently before he went to New York under the instruction of the president, and now came the surprise whereby a cabinet saying “it’s not the government’s plan to ask for foreign troops”.
It’s widely believed that this is a face saving attempt by the embarrassed government which is now losing popularity in the face of this scandal.
